Rockstar Sting is popular for his concerns as far as the environment is concerned. He frequently changes his gig locations if he learns of negative environmental impact associated with his gigs. The latest in the location moves followed the news that the owners of the stadium Sting was due to perform in were allegedly planning to uproot 180 trees so a mall and parking lots could be built in time for the concert.

Sting learnt that the mastermind of the activity, Karlo Marko Altomonte, wrote to his foundation stating that the removal of the trees would additionally result in greater air population and risks of landslides and flooding near school areas. This warning played a huge part in sting’s decision to relocate the concert and delaying the tour schedule. The concert will now take place in the SM mall, a venue in the Asia Arena near Quezon City in the Smart Araneta Coliseum which is owned by the Phillipines richest man – Henry Sy.

In Stings petition, the environmentalists said it is not fair that Sting continues to save rainforests while at the same time the SM is raping the environment. The Rainforest Foundation was established by Sting and his wife back 1989 with the aim of protecting tropical rain forests and residents local to these precious areas. In its statement, the arena stated that, stopping the sting concert at the SM MOA arena has become like a court battle of saving trees from a corporate giant’s reputation. Arnel Gonzales, the manager of the Arena business told AP that now the venue has become “collateral damage” in the campaign of environmentalists’. However, this case was presented to the court which stopped the mall expansion temporarily in city of Baguio. Let’s just hope that sting succeeds in this battle.
